Chuck Spong
Executive Director

In 2008, Chuck accepted the role the Executive Pastor of Arts and Compassion at Winston-Salem First in North Carolina. In 2012, his role shifted from the campus of Winston-Salem First to the development of strategic initiatives focused on city engagement in partnership with other churches, non-profits, marketplace leaders & city officials through Love Out Loud. In 2015, Love Out Loud became an independent 501c3, and Chuck left the staff of WSFirst to serve as the full-time director focused on connecting leaders, volunteers and resources to facilitate alignment of efforts and mobilizing of organizations and people into their areas of interest and giftedness.

Chuck serves on the board of The Forsyth Promise.

Chuck graduated from Evangel University with a bachelor’s in music education and from the Hartt School of Music with a master’s in music theory. He lives in Lewisville, North Carolina, with his wife, Sara, and four children. 


Tonya Monteiro
Director, Strategic Initiatives

Tonya has served in a variety of leadership, advisory, and volunteer roles within the non-profit and public sectors. In her new role with us (which has been years in the making!!), Tonya will serve as our Relationship Director, funded by the KBR Trust, to continue expanding our relationships into East Winston with a specific focus on collaborating with organizations towards educational equity. Tonya has volunteered with Love Out Loud to help develop Love Out Loud’s PATHWAYS program as well as served a term on our board.

Tonya serves on the boards for Imprints Cares and The Arts Based School.

Tonya Graduated Wake Forest with an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Marketing and James Madison University with a BA in Communications. She lives in Winston-Salem with her daughter.


Elizabeth Edwards
Operations & Impact Director

Elizabeth joins the Love Out Loud team with 10+ years of experience spearheading operations, project management, and business development for high-growth organizations. She has a keen eye for problem-solving and sharp decision-making, ensuring an organization's day-to-day runs as efficiently as possible. She thrives in areas around process improvement and embraces new challenges that require a steep learning curve.

She is a graduate of Western Carolina University with a BS in Business Administration and currently resides in Pfafftown, NC.


Brooklyn Avery
Partnership & Communications Manager

Brooklyn joined us as a full-time staff member after two summers of interning with Love Out Loud. Brooklyn gets excited about creating partnerships in Winston-Salem and helping people find their unique service engagement. In her role, Brooklyn develops and maintains relationships with local nonprofit and grassroots organizations, oversees Love Out Loud’s Pathways program, and manages external marketing and connection for Love Out Loud. 

Brooklyn is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a BA in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication and BA in Education Policy. 


Roonie Craig
Bookkeeper

Roonie graduated from Wake Forest with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She has lived in Winston-Salem since 2002 with her husband, Trey, and three sons. Since 2015, Roonie has assisted Love Out Loud in recouping thousands of dollars of reimbursable sales tax. Now an empty-nester to her sons, she’s come on board with great attention to detail and a sweet spirit to assist Love Out Loud.

Roonie has also assisted Love Out Loud with facilitating Food Distribution Site at First Baptist Church on Highland Ave throughout the COVID Season of 2020-2021.


Marc Madrigal
Community Engagement Coordinator

Marc is a native of California and moved to Winston-Salem in 2018. Along with his wife Semra and their three daughters, the Madrigals want to contribute toward local efforts to make Winston a thriving place for everyone, especially those led by people from their own communities. Marc is currently learning about equity in education, community development, and how churches can better serve their neighborhood.


Karen Stutzman
Partnership & Relationship Manager, Love Out Loud Yadkin

Karen serves as the Partnership & Relationship Manager of Love Out Loud Yadkin. Continuing with the mission of Love Out Loud, she works to engage and partner with the people of Yadkin County to transform the community with the love of Jesus by connecting its people and resources. Love Out Loud Yadkin is based at the Shore House in East Bend, and it is the hope that this beautiful space can be holy ground and a launching pad for lasting change in the area. Karen is passionate about seeing people thrive in their gifts, deeply connecting to one another, and service to others. 

Karen also serves as the Board Secretary for SPARK (Share Peace and Rekindle Kindness) and is a Board Member of the Yadkin YMCA. As a musician, she enjoys leading the praise team at Clemmons United Methodist Church; she is also the Music Director at Creative Drama Children’s Theater of Winston-Salem. As a certified health coach, she loves teaching group exercise for the local branches of the YMCA. 

Karen has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Bridgewater College (VA). She has worked in education and church ministry for over 15 years, and she loves finding new ways to serve her community. Karen lives in Winston-Salem with her husband, Paul, and their two children, Kaylee and Josh.
