In 2008, Chuck accepted the role the Executive Pastor of Arts and Compassion at Winston-Salem First in North Carolina. In 2012, his role shifted from the campus of Winston-Salem First to the development of strategic initiatives focused on city engagement in partnership with other churches, non-profits, marketplace leaders & city officials through Love Out Loud. In 2015, Love Out Loud became an independent 501c3, and Chuck left the staff of WSFirst to serve as the full-time director focused on connecting leaders, volunteers and resources to facilitate alignment of efforts and mobilizing of organizations and people into their areas of interest and giftedness.

Clay was raised in the small town of Rural Hall, NC, and he moved to Winston-Salem in high school. At the age of sixteen he gave his life to Christ at a Young Life camp. Clay has been married to his beautiful wife Bekah for fifteen years, and together they have three children: Ever, Owen, and August. To know anything about Clay is to know that what takes place inside his home is the most precious gift in his life. He loves being a husband, and he loves being a dad. Clay received a Ph.D. in Theology & Ethics from Fuller Theological Seminary, and he holds a second doctorate in Systematic Theology from the Free University of Amsterdam (the Netherlands). His academic training was to serve what he sees as his vocational identity and calling: a mash-up of teacher and contemplative, with a hint of prophetic sensibility. He returned to Winston-Salem five years ago and now serves as Co-Executive Director of School of Love.
