In our conversations around WS/FC, we’ve gotten the strong sense that while many families in our community may be fairly well provided for at the beginning of the school year, there may be a strong need for additional supplies around the mid-year point. One of our Love Out Loud teams is leveraging the current discounts and any excess supplies to create booster packs that would go to families at Christmas time as well as to any families we come across who were not served this month.

This Friday (August 19) from 4:00-6:00pm, we’ll be assembling school supply “booster packs" at Winston-Salem State in the Thompson Center (room 207 B/C) with 100 incoming freshmen who have signed up for this community service project. You are invited to join us as it is an excellent opportunity not just to serve the kids of our city but to connect with these extraordinary WSSU students as they arrive in Winston-Salem!

Here are there remaining needs for a service project we are doing to build the packs in partnership with incoming WSSU freshmen this Friday:

  • 110 Wide ruled Spiral note books (Staples and Walmart have for 17 cents)
  • 170 boxes of Crayons
  • 55 boxes of Colored Pencils
  • 200 +  Pencils (#2)
  • 100 + Ink Pens in blue or black
  • 48 Colored Sharpies: 12 Sharpie Pack (fine point or other) for $3 this week at Office Max/Depot
  • 50 Post It's pads
  • 100 Notebook paper wide rule
  • Pencil sharpeners

In addition to the school supply packs, we will also be assembling blessing bags for the homeless. Donations of small hotelshampoos, soaps, and lotions are also needed.
