Family Services

Since 1905, "Building Tomorrow By Strengthening Our Communities and Families Today" because families matter.

Family Services works collaboratively with government, education, other nonprofit organizations and citizens to solve our community’s complex social problems.

Too many individuals in our community struggle with poverty, unemployment and domestic upheaval that threaten not only the lives of their own families but also our collective future.
Family Services works to help children, families and individuals make positive, lasting changes in their lives; strengthen families; build a healthier, more stable community; and build a better future for all of us.

H.O.P.E of WS

H.O.P.E. is a community-wide effort to use the resources of individuals and groups to assemble and distribute healthy meals to children at risk of hunger in their own neighborhoods on Sundays when few other sources of food are available. We use a large green truck with a sound system like an ice cream truck to deliver meals plus collected produce to sites in food deserts where children are hungry and families don't have access to fresh produce. The children sit and eat and enjoy time with volunteers. It's a fun, positive experience where relationships are built and classes requested by the families help empower families to live healthy lives.

Parenting PATH

Parenting PATH's mission is to prevent and treat child abuse in Northwest NC. (Formerly Exchange/SCAN)

Kids are great. They deserve to be fed, sheltered, and clothed, to have the opportunity to grow to be safe with the people that they trust. Unfortunately for over 107,000 kids in North Carolina, this isn't the case. At the Parenting PATH, we're here to help.

The Parenting PATH provides a variety of programs to prevent and treat child abuse. Today 20 different services or support groups are used in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and over 10,000 individuals are reached in 16 counties in Northwest North Carolina.

Although some programs have a fee for service, the majority of services are free to the community. The central Office for administering these programs is located in Winston-Salem, NC.

SECU Family House

For a mother who had not one but two children (50 and 52 yr.) fighting cancer at the same time, the Family House was an ‘oasis in the desert’ for her. She had arrived from out of state, alone and scared.  But when she walked through the front door of the SECU Family House at 2am she felt safe, at home, and comforted. The SECU Family House in Winston-Salem provides affordable lodging and support services in a caring environment for adult patients and their caregivers who travel to Forsyth County for medical treatment.

Needs: The SECU Family House has a variety of long or short term, individual, or group volunteer opportunities to meet your needs and interests. Individual opportunities include guest and administrative support, general housekeeping, baking, or arts and crafts.  Group or family opportunities include preparing meals, deep cleaning the house, making cookies, or making caregiver bags. We are a great place to complete Crosby Scholar service hours.  The Family House relies on monetary and in-kind donations of “wish list” items such as paper products, toiletries, and breakfast items to keep the Family House a safe and comfortable haven for guests in medical crisis. Join the Family House family!
