Natural Shocks is a new play by Lauren Gunderson, offered free on the anniversary of the Columbine shootings to raise money, energy and spirit for the continued struggle against violence. It is a tough and powerful play, read and embodied, by Melissa Jones an actress coming home to Winston-Salem from Brooklyn just for us. The combination of Lauren’s words and her voice promises something quite special.
Natural Shocks is a national movement inspired by the young leaders of Parkland Florida, with more than 80 theaters from dozens of states staging the play on the same weekend. Lauren just won the American Theater Critics Association for best new play of year (The Book of Will) and for the second year in a row is America’s most produced playwright, living or dead. Both Jenny Marshall and DD Adams, candidates for Congress, have committed to bring comments after the play, which is worth coming for alone.
There is a lot happening next weekend, but you will not want to miss this. The performance is free, but we hope you’d come in a generous and hopeful spirit. You can contribute directly through the Eventbrite registration site, or just bring money on Friday.
We’re expecting a good crowd, so are asking you to register online here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/natural-shocks-tickets-45078145948?utm_campaign=order_confirmation_email&utm_medium=email&ref=eemailordconf&utm_source=eb_email&utm_term=eventname
